Hello, and thank you for stopping by!
I am a freelance illustrator and surface pattern designer from beautiful, leafy Cheshire, England. I’m very passionate about design, especially colour, pattern, experimenting with different media and new techniques.
I like to incorporate elements within my work, of nature, animals, people, and everyday objects, both as standalone drawings and also in patterns. My style is fun and painterly, and I tend to work traditionally, developing and finishing my designs on my computer.
I enjoy the entire design process, from inital inspiration research, creating concepts and sketches, testing different colour and media combinations, through to creating finished compositions from my ideas.
Where do I get my inspiration from? Well, I spend time observing what is around me, looking though magazines, and at various sources on the internet.
My Design Journey in a Nutshell.
Since graduating with a BA(Hons) degree in Surface Pattern at The University of Huddersfield in 1998, I have worked as a surface pattern designer in a design studio and have undertaken a lot of freelance work. I also have an MA in Textiles, which I took at Manchester Metropolitan University. I graduated from that in 2010.
My pattern and illustration work has appeared on bedding, mugs, apparel, stationery, gift items and more.
My work for Chester Zoo entailed designing a logo for their “Sing for Songbirds” campaign, together with illustrations for the animation in the campaign video, and the supporting learning resources.
Clients (current and past) include: Babbel, Calypso Cards, Chester Zoo, Coca Cola, Cyber Security Challenge, Debenhams, Deva Designs, Dorma France, Dorma UK, Hallmark US, John Lewis, Morgan, NEXT, Open University, Papyrus, Radio Times, Scholastic, Simon Elvin, Tesco, WWF Poland.
